So you're an anime Fan. Naturally,
you'd want to get your hand on some anime goods. With all the fake items
out there, how do you know if you're getting a fake or the real thing?
Better read this selection if you want to know.
Quality
Obviouslly, the quality of unlicensed
goods are a lot lower than the legitimate products. Unlicensed goods are
produced as cheply as possible. So if the product looks shabby, chances
are it is not the real thing.
Price
Normally, imported anime goods
are often expensive for the retailer to buy in the first place, ounce they
have added their markup, the goods are hardly to be cheap. So, the price
itself shows whether the product is original or not.
Packaging
Official goods normally have
god quality packaging that is well designed. Look at the print quality
of the packaging to see if it is up to scratch. Is the design appropriate
for the anime/manga title? hmm...
Strange English
Contrary to some beliefs, anime
and manga products with english that is either strange, doeen't make sense
or just plain nonsense is not due to spotting unlicensed goods. In japan,
English is cool, characters yell in English for special attacks, moves
and magic. Although english is taught across Japan, few japanese people
have spent enough time in an english speaking country to write proper english.
Rather than hire translator, sentences are thrown together and checked
to see if they seem right. So if you read some strange english on anime
gods it doesn't mean that it is unlicensed.
Copyright Information
Copyright information is a good
way of spotting bootleg products. More often than not, they have no copyright
information. If they do, the company names are ussually spelled wrong.
